Slow Food

Slow Food is an international  non-profit organization that started in 1989 as a movement against fast food. The headquarters is in the small town of Bra in the northwest Italian province of Piedmont (Piemonte).

Founder and current president Carlo Petrini and 100,000 members around the world (including members in local chapters right here in Southern California) work to improve access to local food and food producers, preserve local food traditions and foods that are in danger of becoming extinct and host events and gatherings.

At the heart of Slow Food is conviviality -  the enjoyment of food together.  The association encourages people to take the time to sit down and share food together.

Slow Food also works to preserve biodiversity in the food supply and to connect food producers with co-producers (consumers) through events and work taking place around the world.
